Muir (Ancient)

your tartan, your story
The Muirs trace their origins to Ayrshire, where early bearers of the name—often spelled Mure or More—held lands and served as jurors, knights, and royal officials from the late 13th century onward. The chiefly line, the Mures of Rowallan, rose to prominence through service to the Scottish Crown, most notably when Elizabeth Mure married Robert II, linking the family directly to the Stewart royal line. Over the centuries, members of the clan fought at key battles such as Flodden, supported the Covenanters, and later produced influential figures in literature, politics, and environmental thought.
